I'm Mary Beth Marsden and I live and work in Baltimore, Maryland. I'm also an artist, mom, wife, journalist and broadcaster. You're here for the art, I hope. ;)
I've been creating and painting since I was young. My parents and teachers nurtured "the artist in me" early on. So it's no surprise that I began college majoring in fine arts. During that time however, another career choice caught my eye and I switched gears to focus on communications and broadcast journalism.
For more than 25 years, I worked as a television news reporter, anchor and interviewer. During most of that time I was the evening news anchor for WMAR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Baltimore. I still keep my hand in broadcasting part-time. But my other hand is holding a paint brush!
A few years ago, thanks to encouragement from artist friends, I started painting again. It was a revelation. It sort of feels like I'm coming full circle yet the circle keeps expanding with an almost unlimited desire to create and experiment with the process of making art. American monk and writer, Thomas Merton, said "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." Yes, exactly! There's so much joy and surrender in painting.
I'm also grateful to be able to help some of my favorite philanthropies through art. We are an "autism family" and so each year I have an art show in which a percentage of sales benefits a local autism support and resource organization. That's the icing on the cake!
So whether you are just browsing, or you're one of my wonderful collectors... I thank you for visiting.
